Flavour, use & storage

Flavour profile

Woody, earthy and mildly bitter with a dry, slightly sweet finish. Not strongly aromatic; the tea is pale and unassuming.

How to use

This is a root, so it needs a decoction rather than a steep. Simmer half a teaspoon in a covered pan for ten to fifteen minutes, then strain. It is often combined with horse chestnut or witch hazel in traditional leg and circulation blends.

How to store

Airtight, cool, dry and out of light.

Before you take this

Speak to your doctor before use if you have high blood pressure, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or take medication for blood pressure or circulation. Not recommended during pregnancy.

Questions about Butcher's Broom

Why simmer it instead of steeping?

It is a root, and roots need a decoction. Simmering for ten to fifteen minutes extracts far more than simply pouring hot water over it.

What does it blend well with?

It is traditionally combined with horse chestnut or witch hazel in leg and circulation blends.

Does it taste strong?

No. It is woody and mildly bitter with a dry finish, and the tea is pale. One of the more unassuming roots.

What sizes does it come in?

4 oz, 8 oz and 16 oz. The herb is identical in every size — only the quantity in the pouch changes.

How is it packed?

By hand, in small batches, at our facility in Edison, New Jersey. One ingredient and nothing else — no fillers, flow agents or anti‑caking additives. The full ingredient list is printed on the pouch.

How should I store it?

Airtight, cool, dry and out of light.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are processed within 1–2 business days. Standard shipping then takes 3–5 business days and is free on every order, with no minimum. Express is available at checkout. We ship across the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. See our shipping policy for full details.
