Flavour, use & storage

Flavour profile

Malty, nutty and faintly butterscotch-like over an earthy base, with a slight radish sharpness underneath, since maca belongs to the brassica family. Noticeably sweeter and more pleasant than most root powders, which is why it works so well with cacao and banana.

How to use

Start with a teaspoon. Blend into smoothies, stir into oats or yoghurt, or mix into hot chocolate. Many people build up gradually. If you find raw maca heavy on digestion, gelatinised maca is easier to tolerate.

Airtight, cool and dry, out of sunlight.

Before you take this

Speak to your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition, as maca contains goitrogens, or a hormone-sensitive condition. Not recommended during pregnancy or while nursing. Some people find it disrupts sleep if taken late in the day.
