Flavour, use & storage
Flavour profile
Very bitter, astringent and woody, with a dark tannic depth. This is not a pleasant tea and is rarely drunk for enjoyment. It stains everything it touches a deep brown, including cups, cloth and skin.
How to use
Simmer half a teaspoon in water for ten to fifteen minutes, then strain well. Traditionally taken in small amounts over a short period rather than continuously. Honey or liquorice root helps the taste considerably.
How to store
Airtight, cool, dry and dark. Keep it away from anything it could stain.
Before you take this
Do not use if you have a tree nut allergy. Black walnut is high in tannins and is not intended for long-term continuous use. Avoid during pregnancy and while nursing. Speak to your doctor first if you take any medication, as tannins can affect absorption.

Questions about Black Walnut Hull
I have a nut allergy. Can I take this?
No. Black walnut is a tree nut and must be avoided completely if you have a tree nut allergy.
Why is it so bitter?
The hull is very high in tannins. That bitterness is characteristic and cannot be brewed out. Honey or liquorice root makes it more drinkable.
Can I take it every day indefinitely?
It is traditionally used in short courses rather than continuously, because of the tannin content. Speak to your doctor about what is appropriate for you.
What sizes does it come in?
4 oz, 8 oz and 16 oz. The herb is identical in every size — only the quantity in the pouch changes.
How is it packed?
By hand, in small batches, at our facility in Edison, New Jersey. One ingredient and nothing else — no fillers, flow agents or anti‑caking additives. The full ingredient list is printed on the pouch.
How should I store it?
Airtight, cool, dry and dark. Keep it away from anything it could stain.
How long does delivery take?
Orders are processed within 1–2 business days. Standard shipping then takes 3–5 business days and is free on every order, with no minimum. Express is available at checkout. We ship across the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. See our shipping policy for full details.
