Flavour, use & storage

Flavour profile

Faintly fruity and slightly sour, with a soft pineapple note and a mild chalkiness. Mild enough to disappear into juice completely.

How to use

Stir a quarter teaspoon into cool water or juice. Bromelain is an enzyme and is deactivated by heat, so never add it to boiling or very hot liquid. It is also used in cooking as a meat tenderiser, where a pinch in a marinade works quickly, so do not leave it on too long.

How to store

Airtight, cool and dry. Enzymes degrade with heat and humidity, so keep it well away from the hob and consider the refrigerator in warm months.

Before you take this

Bromelain may increase the effect of blood thinners and some antibiotics. Avoid it if you are allergic to pineapple, or to latex, as cross-reactions occur. Stop before surgery and speak to your doctor if you take regular medication.

This information is general and is not medical advice. Talk to your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, nursing, taking medication or managing a health condition.

Questions about Bromelain Extract

Can I add it to hot tea?

No. Bromelain is an enzyme and heat deactivates it. Use cool or room-temperature liquid.

Is it safe if I am allergic to pineapple?

No. Bromelain is extracted from pineapple stem and should be avoided. There is also a known cross-reaction with latex allergy.

Can I use it in cooking?

Yes, as a meat tenderiser. A pinch in a marinade works quickly. Leave it on too long and the texture turns mushy.

What sizes does it come in?

4 oz, 8 oz and 16 oz. The herb is identical in every size — only the quantity in the pouch changes.

How is it packed?

By hand, in small batches, at our facility in Edison, New Jersey. One ingredient and nothing else — no fillers, flow agents or anti‑caking additives. The full ingredient list is printed on the pouch.

How should I store it?

Airtight, cool and dry. Enzymes degrade with heat and humidity, so keep it well away from the hob and consider the refrigerator in warm months.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are processed within 1–2 business days. Standard shipping then takes 3–5 business days and is free on every order, with no minimum. Express is available at checkout. We ship across the United States including Alaska and Hawaii. See our shipping policy for full details.
